چکیده

The problem to search for possible correlation between the Gamma Ray Bursts of still unknown origin and data recorded with the Gravitational Wave detectors is studied. A new algorithm for this search based on the Kolmogoroff comparison of distributions is given, which is not affected by the presence of non-gaussian noise.

Search for time correlation between gamma-ray bursts and data from the gravitational wave antenna EXPLORER

An analysis of the time correlation between Gamma-Ray Bursts from BATSE detector and EXPLORER Gravitational Wave Antenna data was performed from april 1991 to december 1996. A time interval of ±5 minutes around the trigger time of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) was explored. No significant excess of coincidences between GRBs and EXPLORER events with an energy of about 100 mK was found. This result all...

Search for Gravitational Waves Associated with Gamma-ray Bursts during Ligo

We present the results of a search for gravitational waves associated with 154 gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) that were detected by satellite-based gamma-ray experiments in 2009-2010, during the sixth LIGO science run and the second and third Virgo science runs. We perform two distinct searches: a modeled search for coalescences of either two neutron stars or a neutron star and black hole; and a searc...

Correlation between gamma ray bursts and gravitational wave bursts: the AURIGA complete data analysis

A widely accepted paradigm for astrophysical models of gamma ray bursts (GRB) prescribes a compact ‘central engine’ dominated by gravitational interactions, and therefore a concurrent emission of GRBs and gravitational wave bursts is likely to occur. Consequently, we have tested a novel and reliable method for searching for time correlation in the AURIGA and BATSE complete dataset. The analysis...

Cumulative analysis of the association between the Gravitational Wave Detectors NAUTILUS and EXPLORER and the Gamma Ray Bursts detected by BATSE and BeppoSAX

The statistical association between the output of the Gravitational Wave (GW) detectors EXPLORER and NAUTILUS and a list of Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) detected by the satellite experiments BATSE and BeppoSAX has been analyzed using cumulative algorithms. GW detector data collected between 1991 and 1999 have been correlated to the GRB flux peak times. The cumulative analysis of a large number of GR...

Gravitational wave background from sub-luminous GRBs: prospects for second- and third-generation detectors

We assess the detection prospects of a gravitational wave background associated with subluminous gamma-ray bursts (SL-GRBs). We assume that the central engines of a significant proportion of these bursts are provided by newly born magnetars and consider two plausible GW emission mechanisms. First, the deformation-induced triaxial GW emission from a newly born magnetar. Secondly, the onset of a ...
